About The Issue
The genesis of The Issue is simple: I believe issues still matter outside the confines of a purely political lens. And though it seems like I’m on a shrinking island, I’ve found so many others who can look at each issue on its own merit. Because you’re reading this, I’m betting you’re one of them.
My foray into commentary started with my tracking and presenting Covid-19 data on Twitter when I saw the coverage of data almost instantly become political. I worked (and still work) long hours as a practicing attorney, yet still found time to dig in and provide agenda-free data just because I wanted it free from a forced narrative. And it seems like others did as well.
Discourse today continues to move only one way—toward a team sports mentality. Most media and politicians know where their bread is buttered and act accordingly. I’ve seen this Balkanization continue apace for my entire adult life, which happens to coincide with the mainlining of not just a 24-hour news cycle, but more recently the perpetual social media engagement and commentary cycle where success is driven almost solely by eyes and clicks.
In The Issue, I hope to depart from this trend and write about a variety of topics, both serious and fun. I hope you’ll consider reading and subscribing.
About Me
My name is Craig, and I’m a practicing lawyer in Chicago. I grew up an Air Force brat and lived all over the country. I went to college at the University of Georgia prior to serving for more than a decade on active duty in the United States Air Force. I have over 1200 hours in the F-15E Strike Eagle—more than half of those in combat. I’m forever thankful that I got to fly and fight with some of the best aviators in the world.
I left the Air Force to go to law school at Northwestern in Chicago, which I now call home. I’m lucky to have the most amazing wife and son, and we all cater to Bergdorf, our spoiled Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
